Each section of the application must be completed. It is important to provide an email address because decisions will be notified via email. All attachments should also be submitted according to the instructions below. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The name, contact information and personal identity number of the applicant accepted as a member are stored in the register of members of the Finnish Painters' Union. The purpose of the membership register is to manage the membership of the union's members. We comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act regarding the processing of personal data. All data for each rejected applicant will be deleted from the register after the application period.

Attachment 1: Diploma from art school

The application must be accompanied by A) a diploma or B) another certificate and a statement of the content of the studies or C) a statement of equivalent knowledge and skills.
The original certificate is scanned and uploaded to the system as a .pdf file.

NOTE: Only applicants who meet the conditions of option A will be admitted as candidates on the basis of a diploma alone. Applicants applying for full membership must submit all attachments. Applicants applying under B or C must submit all required attachments.

A. Diploma

An applicant holding a degree in fine arts from a recognized institution is admitted as a candidate member based on professional competence.

Accepted degrees granted by Finnish or institutions in EU-area: Bachelor or Master of Fine Art (specialization in visual arts), or a diploma granted by the Free Art School in Helsinki (four years of studies). An applicant holding a degree from an institution outside of EU-area must have a Master of Fine Arts degree (specialization in visual arts).

A certificate of other Finnish or foreign art education and an explanation of the content / equivalence of studies in the Finnish education system.

C. Written explanation of how the applicant has otherwise obtained a similar professional qualification (eg. incomplete or shorter art studies and self-educated).



Attachment 2: Curriculum vitae

The curriculum vitae must specify the applicant's art education and exhibition activities. Exhibition activities should be divided into solo, group and collective exhibitions.

List also your national or international art competitions, grants and scholarships for artistic activities, public works by the artist and works in major art collections. For public works, the location of the work, the method of production, the customer and the year of manufacture must be mentioned.

Collective exhibitions, art competitions, etc. must be entered on the CV under their official names. The applicant may also enter information of other activities as a visual artist in the CV: other art studies, activities in artist groups, artists' organizations, as an art teacher, etc. Mention also if the merit is related to art studies.

Newspaper reviews or articles should not be attached to the application. The CV is uploaded as a .pdf file.

Curriculum vitae (max. two A4 pages)

The CV must be made on a white background, vertical, max. two A4 pages long. Avoid pictures and unnecessary graphic elements.




Attachment 3: Works of art and info of the works of art

The application is accompanied by 10 sample images and the information of the art works (size, technique and year of completion of the works) as one pdf file.

At least one sample image must be an exhibition image, in which case the proportions of the works and their artistic reference can be better perceived. Works must not be older than five years (2020–2025). Particular attention should be paid to the technical quality of the sample images. Sample images are uploaded to the system as one pdf file.

The size of the file must not exceed 6000 KB. The board views the electronic images with a video projector. The board will not review images that are provided, for example, as a link to the applicant's website or as a printed exhibition catalog.

Attachment 4: Receipt of the application fee

The processing fee for the application (EUR 50) is paid to the Finnish Painters' Union account Nooa FI79 4405 2020 0239 57. Use reference 202541545. Confirm that you have paid the processing fee.
